The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine said there was specific information that a large-scale airstrike could take place on the 20th local time, and the embassy was closed and staff were evacuated.

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, said on its website that it received specific information about the possibility of a large-scale airstrike on the 20th.

"The embassy will be closed for safety reasons, and embassy staff have been instructed to wait in evacuation centers," he said.

"Americans are advised to be ready to evacuate immediately if an air raid warning goes into effect," he added.
