Regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin's approval of the nuclear-use doctrine, which lowers the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons, China has said that it needs "coldness and self-control."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Zhen responded when asked about the issue during a regular briefing, saying each party should maintain coolness and self-control while leading to de-escalation and strategic risk reduction through dialogue and negotiations.

This position is interpreted as a lower level than when Russia announced its intention to revise its nuclear use doctrine in September.

At the time, China reaffirmed its basic position that nuclear weapons should not be used and that nuclear war should not be fought, expressing direct opposition.
