The Korea Credit Finance Association said nine credit card companies, including Lotte, BC, and Samsung, posted 42.221 trillion won in credit card loans last month.
It exceeded the previous record of 41.83 trillion won at the end of August, up more than 530 billion won from the end of September.
The industry believes that credit card loans, which are recession-type loans, have increased due to the combination of regulations on commercial banks' loans and the worsening economy.
