Media reports have confirmed that the U.S. has decided to reverse its existing policies and provide anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing on the 21st local time that he had decided to supply non-persistent anti-personnel landmines to neutralize the advance of Russian infantry on Ukraine's eastern front.

The U.S. has provided anti-tank landmines to Ukraine, but this is the first anti-personnel mine support.

Miller stressed that battery-powered anti-personnel mines are relatively safe for civilians as they become inactive two weeks after installation as the battery discharges.U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who is visiting
Laos, also confirmed the support of anti-personnel mines, saying Russia has changed its tactics to infantry advance operations, unlike in the early days of the war with mechanized troops.

Austin explained that the mines the U.S. is trying to provide are much safer than Ukraine's own production mines because they can operate on their own and control when they explode, and he has been discussing how to use them with Ukraine. The current president,

Joe Biden, revived the policy of banning the use of anti-personnel mines outside the Korean Peninsula, which was abolished by the first Trump administration in 2022, but reversed his policy as the situation in Ukraine worsened.

Miller added that the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, which was closed after a large-scale air raid warning, will operate normally from the 21st.
