North Korea strongly protested the adoption of a resolution condemning the regime's widespread human rights violations at a committee under the U.N. General Assembly.

North Korea's Foreign Ministry criticized the resolution on North Korean human rights adopted by the UN General Assembly's Third Committee as a political provocation that distorted the reality.

North Korea's foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement that the U.S. and its followers branded and strongly condemned the adoption of a human rights resolution as a serious political provocation that violates the country's dignity and sovereignty.

He also protested that taking all necessary measures to protect national rights and to defend the safety and interests of his citizens is a normal and legitimate exercise of rights by a sovereign state that no one can dispute.

The third committee of the UN General Assembly held a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York, USA, and adopted the North Korean human rights resolution jointly proposed by 61 countries, including South Korea, as a consensus without voting and handed it over to the UN General Assembly plenary session.
