According to a survey, youth smoking and drinking rates have decreased significantly over the past 20 years.

According to the Youth Health Behavior Survey released by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the smoking rate of middle and high school students, including e-cigarettes, was 4.5% this year.

This is a 62% decrease from the 11.8% smoking rate in 2005 when the survey was first started.The drinking rate of middle and high school students in

also decreased by 64% over the past 20 years from 27% in 2005 to 9.7% this year.

However, the proportion of students who skipped breakfast five days a week has steadily risen every year from 27.1% in 2005 to 42.4% this year, and the obesity rate has more than doubled during the same period, indicating that improvement is needed.

Since 2005, the Ministry of Education and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been conducting a survey of youth health behaviors such as smoking, drinking, physical activity, and diet on 2,400 classes nationwide.
