Gyeonggi Province said it will promote the "RE100 Special Zone" project, which includes integrating renewable energy generation facilities and returning some of the profits from power generation to residents participating in the fund.

The province explained that it plans to create RE100 special zones in three areas, including the west coast, the northern peace economy, and the southeastern region, and plans to hold a special zone participation contest for cities and counties next year.

RE100 is an international campaign to convert 100% of the electricity used to renewable energy by 2050.

Kim Yeon-ji, head of the energy industry division in the province, said, "We will strengthen cooperation between cities and counties and create a leading model in Korea through special zone projects."
