Prosecutors appeal against Lee Jae-myung's first trial ruling for "violation of election law."

The prosecution appealed against the first trial's ruling, which sentenced Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, to a suspended prison term, who was accused of publishing false information ahead of the last presidential election.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said today (22nd) that it has appealed the original ruling, which sentenced CEO Lee to one year in prison and two years of probation for violating the Public Official Election Act, citing misleading facts, misunderstanding of the law, and unfair sentencing.

The prosecution explained at the appeal trial that it will prove that CEO Lee's so-called "I didn't know Kim Moon-ki" remarks denied public and private communication, including his business relationship with the late Kim Moon-ki, the former director of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation's development department.

Earlier, Lee was indicted on charges of not knowing Kim as Seongnam mayor when he was a presidential candidate or making false statements to the effect that he changed the use of the Baekhyun-dong site under pressure from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

On the 15th, the court found some of the representative charges guilty and sentenced him to one year in prison and two years of probation in the first trial.

Representative Lee also issued an appeal yesterday (21st), a day before the deadline for appeal.
