In May, the Ministry of Employment and Labor launched an investigation into Samsung Electronics for violating the Serious Accident Punishment Act in connection with an accident in which two workers were exposed to radiation at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant.

An official from the Ministry of Labor said on the 14th that they were notified of the extension of the medical care period for exposed workers by the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation and immediately launched a serious accident investigation into Samsung Electronics.

It is in accordance with the provisions of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, which requires two or more people to be treated for more than six months, and this is the first time that Samsung Electronics has been investigated for violating the Serious Accident Punishment Act.

Earlier on May 27, two workers who were repairing the radiation generating equipment were exposed to radiation because the protective devices of the radiation generating equipment did not work properly at Samsung Electronics' Giheung plant.

Samsung Electronics has claimed that the accident is an "illness" rather than an occupational injury, but the Ministry of Labor has imposed a fine of 30 million won and continued its investigation, judging it as an "injury" rather than an illness.
