Israel and Lebanese militant Hezbollah are close to reaching an agreement on a ceasefire, US media Axios reported on the 25th local time.

U.S. and Israeli officials reportedly said the two sides were on the verge of agreeing to a cease-fire in the deal, with the aim of having a 60-day transition period.

The cease-fire requires Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon during the transition period, while Lebanese government forces are deployed near the border, while Hezbollah is moving heavy weapons north of the Ritani River.

It also required the U.S.-led Board of Management to monitor the implementation and violations of the agreement.

However, it is known that issues still remain until the agreement is reached.

The outlook comes as negotiations are gaining momentum, with senior White House adviser Amos Hochstein, who was previously sent as President Joe Biden's special envoy to the Middle East, saying on the 20th that "there has been progress."

So far, the fighting between the two sides has mainly resulted in casualties on the Lebanese side, with more than 3,500 killed and 15,000 wounded, and about 140 soldiers and civilians in Israel.

On Sunday, Hochstein warned Israel's ambassador to the U.S. that he would step back from mediation if Israel did not agree to a cease-fire agreement in the coming days, Axios said.

The warning reportedly came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu poured cold water on a near-miss deal on the 21st.

At the time, Netanyahu was reportedly outraged when he heard that the International Criminal Court had issued an arrest warrant for him on war crimes charges while meeting with Hochstein.

He was even more angry when France and others supported issuing arrest warrants, but he convened ministers and intelligence chiefs to discuss the ceasefire again on Monday, a day after Hochstein's warning, Axios added.
