On the 23rd, the 12th Criminal Division of the Jeonju District Court (Chief Judge Kim Do-hyung) announced that A (95) accused of attempted murder was sentenced to four years in prison.
A was accused of hitting his eldest daughter-in-law B's head several times with a 3-kg dumbbell while watching television at his home in downtown Jeonju on the afternoon of August 18.
He is said to have strangled B, shouting "die" even when he woke up again after losing consciousness in shock.
B was taken to the emergency room for treatment after being seriously injured with a crack in his head bone, but he is reportedly complaining of mental fear.
On the day of the crime, A said, "Are you the only ones who ate with good rice, and I cooked with bad rice?" and forced B to leave the house. In response, when Mr. B was told, "My father should go out," he couldn't beat you and bought the extreme medicine.
Before attempting to poison, A said, "If I die like this, there is no one to know why I died. I thought I should kill my daughter-in-law first, so I committed the crime with a dumbbell at home.
A admitted the assault during the trial, but claimed that he had no intention of killing his daughter-in-law.
However, the court ruled, "The defendant continued to commit the crime even when the defendant, who was beaten by the spirit he wielded, woke up and tried to run away," adding, "In light of this, it is difficult to say that the defendant accidentally injured the victim without intention to kill him."
"Even if it was only an attempt, the murder crime should be severely punished," he said. "The sentence was decided in consideration of the fact that the victim still complained of fear and did not forgive the accused."
