There is a strong rain and wind all over the country today. There will be places where snow accumulates from the afternoon. A lot of snow is expected by tomorrow. I will look into the weather with the airportjin YTN disaster advisor.
[Airport Jin]
Hello,
[Anchor]
It rained quite a bit on my way to work this morning. A huge rain cloud covers the Korean Peninsula right now, how much rain is it raining across the country?
[Airport Jin]
It rained a lot all night. I was very worried because 59mm of rain fell very strongly in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do. In particular, nearly 100mm of heavy rain was recorded in the mountainous areas of Jeju. 16mm of rain was recorded in Seoul. However, the rain clouds are moving rapidly east, so most of the western regions such as Seoul stopped raining. Some people are also seeing clear skies. But the wind is blowing a little strong. It looks like the weather will change a lot today. This is because cold air is rushing in from the north. There is currently a cold air of about minus 40 degrees Celsius rushing in 5km, which is the coldest air experienced in November. That's why I think we're heading fast to winter now.
[Anchor]
It seems to be getting cold rapidly from today, but there are places where the rain turns to snow in the afternoon. How much snow does it fall and how much does it pile up?
[Airport Jin]
The temperature drops gradually because of the strong rush of cold air. So the current temperature is the highest temperature today. So, in the afternoon, the temperature trend will continue, and the temperature will drop from 2-3 pm. As the temperature drops like this, there is a high possibility that the occasional rain will turn into snow. When it snows, Seoul will have the first snow. When the cold air comes down strongly, the instability becomes severe. This increases the possibility of strong clouds developing. So, as the possibility of developing this snow cloud increases, very strong and heavy snow of about 1 to 3 centimeters per hour is expected from the Seoul metropolitan area from dawn to morning tomorrow. So it is expected that up to 8cm of snow will accumulate in the metropolitan area.
And a lot of snow is expected to accumulate up to 15cm in the high mountains of the central or southern part, especially in the mountains of Gangwon-do, but when there is so much snow, it is inconvenient in many ways. When a lot of snow falls, there is a possibility that the vehicle will be isolated from the sudden snow. And because this is heavy snow, there is a possibility of damaging greenhouses and facilities. And if it suddenly snows a lot, you can't see well. It's much more difficult to stand in the way than rain. That's why it's very difficult to drive because the visibility gets shorter.
Also, you should be careful about this because it may become slippery if snow builds up and suddenly spreads to the icy road. And I don't think there will be much inconvenience during today's rush hour. Of course, there is a possibility that the wind will blow and get cold, so the cold weather may cause you to suffer, but tomorrow's rush hour is a problem. As I said earlier, there is a possibility of strong snow between dawn and morning tomorrow, so it is expected that you should use public transportation if possible on your way to work tomorrow morning. In particular, snow is expected to accumulate on Jeju Island and Honam until tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and the writing. So, for those traveling to and from Jeju Island, it would be good to check whether there is any problem with the aircraft rising and falling in the snow.
[Anchor]
You pointed out some precautions by region, but you said that the first snow will fall a lot in Gangwon-do this afternoon. Since there are many people working in agriculture here, I think it would be better to prepare the facilities even now, so what should I pay attention to?
[Airport Jin]
It's raining to the east. I think it would be better to put away fallen leaves in areas where it rains. As I said earlier, when it snows a lot, there is a concern about damage to facilities if the snow is heavy. But this snow is likely to be the first snow in Seoul. It is more likely to be dawn tomorrow than tonight, but in the same case last year, the first snow and very strong snow fell on November 24th last year in Seoul. 8. Eight centimeters piled up, and it seems that the same phenomenon as last year will continue this year, but last year, snow accumulated and melted right away. However, this time, cold air is rushing in, so if a lot of snow accumulates, it will not melt well. Of course, the temperature will rise by video during the day. So I think it would be good to pay attention to snow removal as well. According to the records so far, the earliest first snow fell in late October. The very slow snow did not fall in December, but the following year, in 2005, the first snow also fell on January 8, and it is not important when the first snow falls, and how much damage is expected. This snow suddenly falls, a lot of snow, and heavy snow, so thorough preparation seems necessary.
[Anchor]
But looking at the daytime temperature, most of them are around 10 degrees Celsius. I don't think there are many people who don't understand why it's snowing when the temperature is on video like this. What do you think?
[Airport Jin]
That's right. The forecast for the highest temperature is to forecast the highest temperature all day, not the highest temperature during the day. Of course, it is likely that the highest temperature will usually be recorded during the day. In today's case, there is a possibility that this temperature will be recorded in the morning rather than in the daytime just because the maximum temperature is out. And since the temperature drops little by little, there is a possibility that the rain will turn into snow. But why, this is a video, but why is it snowing and not raining? There are people who think like this, but what we usually observe is weather phenomena about 1.5m above the ground. But when you see snow falling, if there is cold air about 700 to 800 meters above, the snow starts. If this snow melts before it falls on the ground, of course, it rains, but if it does not melt, snow is observed. For this reason, snow often falls even if it is observed at 1-2 degrees or 2-3 degrees from the ground.
Therefore, it is important to know the temperature of the place where the snow is made and whether this snow falls off the ground and melts, so in normal cases, it is highly likely that snow will fall even if the temperature is 2 to 3 degrees in the forecast because this snow falls and falls, that is, the temperature of 700 to 800 meters high. So actually, there's a little difference.
[Anchor]
There's news of snow today and tomorrow. It's windy today, too. There are places where strong wind warnings have been issued, but how strong is it for us to feel if the wind blows more than 70km/h?
[Airport Jin]
Usually, people use expressions like typhoon-like wind a lot. When a typhoon blows, if it is a very weak typhoon, this wind speed of about 70km/h is achieved. So this time, it's almost like a typhoon. There are very weak typhoons and of course, there are typhoons with strong winds, but you can think of it as a weak typhoon. If that happens, there is a possibility that the facilities will fall off, and the problem is that the sudden wind and gusts are the problem rather than the steady wind like this. The instantaneous wind gust actually has a large impact, so if the facilities fall off due to this impact, there may be secondary damage, so you should be prepared. The wind is expected to be very strong today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. So, there is a possibility that a strong wind warning will take effect not only on the coast but also inland. If this wind blows, the temperature is falling now, so the temperature is expected to drop further, which will adversely affect health. So, it would be good to prepare for your health and wear several layers of thin clothing, especially warm clothes.
[Anchor]
I think you should prepare for winter like that, but as the cold weather continues for a while, it snows again later this week?
[Airport Jin]
The first big snow is coming tomorrow morning. And it will slow down for a while tomorrow afternoon and snow will fall again the day after tomorrow. Usually, when winter comes, the water temperature in the West Sea is still a little high as cold air and cold air come in. So there are snow clouds created by cold air passing through the sea, and these snow clouds affect the day after tomorrow. There is no chance that cold air will escape easily. Therefore, it is likely that such inclement weather will continue for the time being because it rotates little by little and affects it. So, it will continue to snow everywhere until Friday in cloudy weather, and Saturday and Sunday will continue to be a little sunny, but the temperature will continue to be low, so it would be good to prepare for this trend for the time being and continue to prepare for a lot of snow on the west coast or in such areas.
[Anchor]
It's getting cold from today, but yesterday it was very warm for winter. So there are places where Jongno, Gangneung, Daejeon, and forsythia bloomed.
[Airport Jin]
That's right. In fact, plants bloom when they meet the conditions such as the temperature at which they bloom. So as the abnormal climate continues, plants are also very confused by these strange weather phenomena. So, there are these seasonal abnormalities all over the country, and these phenomena can be seen as a phenomenon that appears during the transition period. So it can be seen that it appears between autumn and winter. But in winter, the cold air is expected to continue to affect it. As we saw a while ago, isn't there a lot of days when the temperature drops below zero in the future? In this case, these phenomena in which forsythia and azalea bloom in full bloom are expected to slow down and go to a complete winter. This phenomenon of seasonal phenomena is likely to continue in the future. Overall, as the Earth warms, abnormal climates often appear, so the phenomena in which plants are confused continue in the future. In fact, it's hard for us to endure when the weather changes too much. So strange seasonal phenomena caused by these anomalies are likely to continue in the future.

According to the forecast released by the Korea Meteorological Administration last month, the temperature in December could be lower than usual, but looking at what came out later, I saw that it would be a warm winter this year. Why did the outlook change in a month?
[Airport Jin]
There are places where we look in when we look at the winter view of our country. For example, we look at these phenomena: the west of Korea, the north of Korea, the south of Korea. However, if the cold air coming down from the north is likely to affect it, it is predicted that winter will be cold, and if the effect from the south increases, it is warm. It's a little bit more likely that the warm air in the south, like the high sea level near our country or the effect of La Niña, is going to affect us than the cold air that was going to come down from the north. That's why the Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that December could be similar to or slightly lower than the average year, but changed the outlook a little. This is because warm air is more likely to affect it in the south. So, there are currently three-month forecasts, but December is likely to be similar to the average year, so there are probably several days when it falls below minus 10 degrees Celsius in December. January and February are expected to be similar or a little warmer than usual, but the temperature change is expected to be large.
So, the overall warm weather will continue, but if the temperature suddenly drops, this weather is expected to drop to around minus 15 degrees Celsius, so there is a high possibility that there will be a mixture of cold and warm weather this winter. It's better to be prepared with these things in mind:
.

Until now, ski resorts have been delayed due to the warm weather, but from this week, they will prepare to open sequentially. What should I pay attention to in order to enjoy winter sports safely?
[Airport Jin]
I think there will be a lot of people preparing for winter sports, but there are many basic things, but first of all, we need to see if it becomes an environment where we can enjoy sports. Look at the weather and the snow conditions. We also need to check the equipment. If the equipment is bad, it can be very dangerous. If you look at it now, many ski resorts will open in earnest from the end of December, and you should maintain a safe distance and follow the rules of conduct. Above all, it is important to choose a course that suits your physical strength or skill level. And before you start exercising, it is a good contrast to warm up enough to relax your muscles and joints. Anyway, I think it would be a good way to enjoy winter sports to your heart's content by knowing yourself and then checking the environment, weather, or snow conditions, and preparing for it to be safe if possible.
[Anchor]
I see. Let's stop here. So far, I've been with YTN Disaster Advisory Committee member, Airportjin. Thank you.
