[Gyeonggi] Seongnam-si and Gwacheon-si will be provided with a free 'standard plastic bag design right'

Seongnam City has decided to provide free design rights for volume-based bags at Gwacheon City's request.

The design provided by Seongnam City is used for three types of pay-as-you-go bags, including incineration, reuse, and public use, which are patented by Seongnam City, and this is the second time that Seongnam City provides the right to design pay-as-you-go bags to other local governments after Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, in August last year.

This includes quantifying carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by specification, prohibited items visualized in graphic letters, handle shapes, and parallel marking of English and Chinese.The city of

explained that Gwacheon City has requested a non-exclusive license contract for design rights and decided to provide it free of charge.

Seongnam City changed the design of the envelope in May 2022, 27 years after the volume-based system was implemented in 1995.

In order to improve citizens' awareness of reducing greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide emissions by specification were displayed for the first time in the country.

In the case of a 20-liter pay-as-you-go bag, the amount of waste is the same as 5.26kg of CO₂, and if 20ℓ of waste is reduced, 5 pine trees are planted.

It is also characterized by visualizing prohibited items in pictures and making them handle-type so that citizens can conveniently discharge waste.

Seongnam City received a patent for the design of a pay-as-you-go bag on February 18, 2022.
