malaria cases jumped from 294 in 2021 and 420 in 2022 to 747 last year before declining slightly this year.
Malaria is caught when bitten by a female spot-winged mosquito infected with the protozoan, and is spread by sucking the patient's blood as the infected malaria-borne mosquito bites another person.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained that it is thanks to the strengthening of management of malaria-producing areas such as Gyeonggi, Incheon, and Gangwon in accordance with the second malaria re-emergence implementation plan.
