It was found that a majority of the majors who resigned in protest of the government's healthcare reform were re-employed as general doctors.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said that out of 9,198 residents whose resignation was confirmed as of the 18th, 50,4% or 4,640 people, are employed and working at medical institutions as general medical doctors.

The number of residents this year fell 86.4% from 8,765 in the second quarter to 1,190 in the third quarter, while the number of residents who resigned rose 43% from 6,624 to 9,471 as they were employed as general practitioners.

A resident is a doctor who conducts clinical training at a hospital to obtain specialist qualifications after a year of internship, and nearly 90% of the 10,000 resident appointments this year resigned and gave up training.
