Nearly 2.6 million people have signed an online petition to dissolve parliament and hold an early general election in Britain, less than five months after the Labour government was launched.

A petition was posted on the website of the British parliament calling for the general election, saying, "The Labor government did not keep its pledges made in the last general election," and as of this morning (26th) local time, more than 2.58 million people participated in it.

Since the petition was posted over the weekend, Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk has also sent messages of support on social media.

During the anti-immigrant violence in Britain this summer, Musk was at odds with the Labor Party for posting a series of articles critical of the Labor government.

A formal debate could take place in parliament if more than 100,000 people sign the petition, but with Labour having an overwhelming majority in the House of Commons, there seems virtually no chance of another general election in the UK in the near term.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has the power to ask the king for an early general election, told ITV yesterday that what he has to focus on is policy decisions that must be made every day, dismissing the possibility of an early general election.
