Bloomberg reported that Lighthizer, a senior adviser to former Trade Representative who designed the first Trump administration's tariff policy, will take over the same position in the next administration.

The news agency said Trump's transition team plans to announce Jamieson Greer as the next trade representative, and the selection highlights that tariffs will be key to Trump's economic agenda.

Greer is a longtime student and senior adviser to Lighthizer, who served four years as Trump's first trade representative, and now works as a partner attorney at law firm Kings & Spalding.

He was used as the senior replacement secretary for the U.S. during the renegotiation of the Korea-U.S. FTA in 2017, and last year, he wrote an article that South Korea's platform law would escalate the trade conflict.

Bloomberg observed that Greer is expected to play a pivotal role in implementing Trump's tariff policies.

Earlier on his first day in office, Trump said he would impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and an additional 10% on China.
