Rep. Shin Yong-sik of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do Province, who was accused of overusing legal election expenses, was sentenced to invalidity of the election.

On the 14th, the Supreme Court confirmed the original ruling, which sentenced lawmaker Shin to a fine of 1.5 million won each for violating the Public Official Election Act and the Political Fund Act.

If the president-elect is fined more than 1 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act, the election will be invalid, so lawmaker Shin will lose his position.

Representative Shin has been on trial for conspiring with election camp accounting officers in last year's local elections to use excess election expenses set by the law and omitting them from accounting reports.
