Incheon International Airport held an opening ceremony today (29th) after completing the four-stage expansion project that began in 2017, including the expansion of the second passenger terminal.

However, the additional expansion space will be officially operated from the 3rd of next month.

In this regard, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Incheon International Airport Corporation held the 'Incheon Airport Stage 4 Grand Opening Event' this morning (29th).

As a result, Incheon International Airport will leap to the world's third-largest airport with an annual capacity of 106 million passengers and have two passenger terminals that can accommodate more than 50 million international passengers for the first time in the world.

It has also expanded its cargo handling capacity to 6.3 million tons to build the world's second-largest air logistics capability.

It is expected to strengthen smart security services to provide passengers with a quick and convenient airport experience during security screening and boarding procedures.

Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Park Sang-woo said, "It will mark a milestone toward a new emergency for South Korea, opening the era of 100 million passengers," adding, "We will continue to look at it before and after the start of operations so that we can provide services worthy of the highest level of airport infrastructure."
