The Supreme Court yesterday (28th) confirmed the lower court's ruling against the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by Bongeun against KEPCO to cancel the registration of the transfer of ownership.
In 1970, during the Park Chung-hee administration, Bongeunsa filed a lawsuit against KEPCO and others, claiming that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry forced them to sell the temple-owned land without the consent of the governor.
However, the first and second trials ruled against the plaintiff, saying that there was no illegality in the trading process and that it was a legitimate transaction in which the monk delegated his authority to the general secretary at the time.
The land in question was 330,000 square meters in Samseong-dong, Seoul, and was sold to Hyundai Motor Group in September 2014 after being converted into KEPCO land after land conversion.
