The Daegu District Court sentenced 63-year-old A, who was put on trial for wielding a weapon to death on his 39-year-old son with a first-degree brain lesion disorder, to three years in prison.

The court said it understood that A had sacrificed more than usual in caring for the victim for 39 years, but explained the reason for the sentencing that it cannot be justified to take away the life of his child by being pessimistic about the situation of himself and his child as a parent.

He added that the victim's son ended his life in extreme pain without resisting his father, and that the method of crime was cruel.

A was put on trial in October last year on charges of killing his son by wielding a weapon while taking a bath at his home in Nam-gu, Daegu.

Mr. A took care of his disabled son for 39 years, but he committed a crime after suffering from depression in 2021 when he was seriously injured in a car accident and was unable to work, and later tried an extreme choice, fell unconscious, and recovered his health.
