Prosecutors asked the court to sentence Superintendent Seo to a fine of 3 million won, which is equivalent to invalidating the election, saying he announced false information in four debates and social media at the appeals court held in Jeonju District Court.
In response, the lawyer pleaded not guilty, saying, "No one has witnessed the defendant slap Professor Lee Gwi-jae in the face, and no objective evidence has been confirmed to support it."Superintendent
Seo was indicted without detention on charges of disclosing false information by denying Lee's assault in 2013 during the last superintendent election, and was found not guilty in the first trial thanks to Lee's testimony that there was no assault.
However, as Professor Lee, who was later indicted on charges of perjury, confessed to the prosecution that he "perjured in the first trial of Superintendent Seo" and was sentenced to 10 months in prison in his first and second trials, observers say the result could affect Superintendent Seo's trial.
