The U.S. State Department said the cease-fire negotiations between Israel and Lebanese militant Hezbollah are now maintained and largely successful.

U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told a briefing that the truce was largely successful, given that fighting had stopped and that it had gone down a path that would not see casual loss of life like the previous two months.

He also explained that if the ceasefire is maintained, violations can naturally occur, and that if it is reported on potential violations, it is equipped with a device to review them with the French government to prevent recurrence.

Miller said the surveillance devices were already in operation in the early weeks of the fragile situation immediately after the cease-fire agreement, preparing for violations of the agreement as much as they could claim violations of the agreement or actual violations could occur.

Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a 60-day temporary ceasefire on the 27th of last month, but sporadic clashes have erupted between the two sides and each other has blamed violations of the agreement, leading to a "thin" ceasefire.
