The U.S. State Department says the South Korea-U.S. alliance is not an alliance between presidents, but an alliance between governments and the people.

Asked if the Yoon Suk Yeol president's impeachment would disrupt the South Korea-U.S. alliance, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, "Our commitment to the South Korea-U.S. alliance is ironclad."

Miller said the country has shown the resilience of democracy in the past few weeks, and that it is a hard-won democratic resilience decades ago.

He also said he watched the Korean people peacefully follow the process outlined in the Constitution.

Miller stressed that he is ready to continue working with the acting president and the South Korean government just as he has with Yoon.
