Broadcom, which set fire to a rise in semiconductor stocks last week, topped $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time ever, rose more than 11% on the same day and the semiconductor index surged more than 2%.

Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 22.99 points, 0.38% to 6,074.08 from the previous session, and the Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 247.17 points, 1.24% to 20,173.89.
As buying in semiconductor-related stocks such as Broadcom has been concentrated for two consecutive days, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index jumped more than 3% on the 13th and surged more than 2% on the same day, quickly making up for last month's slump.
