Police have launched an investigation after elementary school students complained of nausea after eating chocolate handed out by a woman in her 40s who is engaged in missionary activities in front of the school.

According to the Nonhyeon Police Station in Incheon on the 16th, seven elementary school students who ate chocolate distributed by a woman in her 40s near an elementary school in Namdong-gu, Incheon, complained of nausea and dizziness at around 8 a.m. that day.

Elementary school health teachers reported to the police at around 9:50 a.m. when seven students in the third and fifth and sixth grades complained of similar symptoms at the same time. The students were treated at the hospital with their parents after leaving early.

"I did missionary work in front of the school," A said in a police investigation. "I gave out small chocolates to the children to promote the church."

The police will request the National Forensic Service to test the chocolate composition. Health authorities are also checking for food poisoning bacteria in chocolate.

The police explained, "Chocolate was an expired product," adding, "I heard that the hospital suspected food poisoning, but no definite disease name has been released yet."
