Kwon Sung-dong, the acting leader and floor leader of the People's Power Party, and Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will meet for the first time since the passing of President Yoon's impeachment bill.
It is expected to discuss ways to deal with the situation in confusion, such as the emergency martial law situation and the approval of the president's impeachment, and attention is being paid to whether the appointment of three constitutional judges recommended by the National Assembly, which the ruling and opposition parties disagree with, will also be addressed.
Let's go to the scene.
[Kwon Seongdong/ Acting and floor leader]
First of all, I would like to thank our representative Lee Jae-myung for welcoming the delegation of the People's Power Party.
The country is difficult these days.
The declaration of emergency martial law has caused great confusion and shock to the people.
As always, I think our political community and the legislature have the lowest trust from the people.
In these difficult times, the administration should focus on its own administrative work, and the judiciary is expected to make such a quick and fair decision without wavering.
However, if our legislature refrains from excessive competition with each other and calmly puts its heads together for people's livelihoods and security, I think we will be able to settle this mess well.
I also welcome the fact that Representative Lee Jae-myung recently mentioned the need to appoint a defense minister in charge of our security and national defense, and I think it is a really good decision.
I think we need to examine at this point whether this current situation, this impeachment three times in our constitutional history, the governance structure adopted by our Constitution, the so-called presidential-centered nation, really fits our reality.
It is true that few presidents are considered to have done a good job in the seventh presidential election since the 1987 constitutional system.
So it is time to change the presidential system, which is all or nothing, to a system that can reflect the opinions of more people and to cooperate with each other. I would like to ask you to show a more forward-looking attitude in this regard.
And looking at it now, a total of 14 impeachment cases are pending in the Constitutional Court, including Choi Sang-sa, chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and Park Sung-jae, Minister of Justice.I wonder when the Constitutional Court will be able to rule on these 14 articles of impeachment by going as far as
and impeachment against the president.
So, in order to deal with the current state of affairs, I would like to ask you to withdraw the impeachment prosecution, which has a strong political offensive character, at the level of the National Assembly to ease the burden on the Constitutional Court, and to release it because the state of affairs is paralyzed due to the impeachment of many people.
I'll say this much in the opening remarks.
Thank you.
[Interview]
Next, there is a word from party leader Lee Jae-myung.
[Lee Jae Myung / Minjoo Party leader]
Welcome to our floor leader and acting party leader Kwon Sung-dong.
Perhaps the power of the people is not so easy these days, but I hope you will quickly organize the chaotic state affairs with solid leadership.
I told you often and I called you not too long ago. I don't know if you know, but he is a senior at my university and used to share the room next door to me when I was young.
Personally, we're very close. As I called and told you, I want politics to be restored.
Originally, when people in the world live together, they have no choice but to fight or compete because they all have different thoughts and interests and positions, but if you have this attitude of removing the other person like a war or that you will live alone, you cannot maintain the community.
Therefore, it is the original role of politics to acknowledge each other's existence, make proper concessions, and compromise to reach a certain agreement. Now, unfortunately, it is not politics, but a war.
As I said, I think that idea is important.
Politicians should be happy when it comes to politics.
The people should be happy and the country should be stable. When these politicians fight all day to get rid of someone and worry about how to take care of their interests solely with the power they are given, they are also unhappy.
So I sometimes jokingly ask politicians like this and I want to ask them.
Are you happy now? Do you make it like this and come at night well?
I really want to ask you this question.
I'm thinking that it would be nice if politics were restored.
Another thing is about the restoration of the constitutional order, and the state of affairs is very unstable. We usually say that state affairs are stabilized, but I think the most important thing among them is the rapid return of the constitutional order.
There will be various measures and they will have different positions, but since the national and economic losses are so great just one day, I hope that this state of instability will be restored as soon as possible, considering the difficulties of the people, the difficulties of the economy, and the problems of the national dignity of the Republic of Korea.
I think there are no topics that the people's power and the Democrats can't talk to and there are no agendas that they can't discuss.
I think we can negotiate as much as we want to meet the public's eye level at an appropriate level.
Because the economy is so difficult right now, I think that the government's responsibility for the economic sector has been too weak because it has been buried so far in the form of balanced and sound finances in line with the potential growth rate.
So, I think it would be nice to make an extra budget for people's livelihoods as soon as possible to stabilize people's livelihoods, and please review this prospectively.
The president is currently suspended from his duties, so the state of affairs is very unstable.
Since the agency system cannot be perfect, I think it will be necessary for all political forces of the 1st and 2nd parties to join forces to hold actual consultations so that the state of affairs can be stabilized and not suffer a crisis, and I think our representative Kwon Sung-dong is a little pessimistic about the state affairs stability council I proposed.
We can yield everything we need. But now, the Democratic Party and the People's Power floor negotiation group need to have some practical consultations. I think about it.
Please come up with that plan.
What you said earlier is still on our agenda, but we'll talk a little more in private later, and the floor leaders will continue to talk about the operation of the National Assembly, but I don't think party-to-party discussions and discussions are going very well.
I think it would be nice to create a passage for that. I would like to welcome you once again.
In a good conclusion, I hope our people will be less worried about the country and politics.
But the hope is that the National Assembly was originally evaluated as the least reliable institution, but recently the National Assembly is paying for the meal. Expectations for the role of the National Assembly also seem to have improved considerably.
Of course, it's a slightly different evaluation. Anyway, I hope it will be a good opportunity to be reborn as a National Assembly recognized by the people and as a party.
Welcome aboard.
