The Western Line urban railway project, which connects six districts from Eunpyeong-gu to Gwanak-gu in Seoul, will be on track for the first time in 16 years.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it will proceed with follow-up procedures with the aim of starting construction in 2026 as the agreement to implement the Western Line Urban Railroad passed the deliberation by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Private Investment Project Deliberation Committee on the 12th.

The Seobu Line is a light rail line to relieve traffic difficulties in the northwest and southwest areas of Seoul, running 16 stations from Saejeol Station in Eunpyeong-gu to Seoul National University Station in Gwanak-gu, and transferring lines 1, 2, 6, 7, and 9.An official from

explained that the conditions for the project had deteriorated due to a surge in raw materials, labor costs, and interest rates, but that special cases related to the surge in construction costs were applied as a result of active cooperation with related organizations such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance and business operators.

Accordingly, when implementing the implementation agreement, the total project cost will be raised by 4.24% and KRW 1.5783 trillion will be set up, an increase of 64.2 billion from the previous plan.
