The international airport in the Syrian capital Damascus has resumed operations, starting with domestic flights for the first time in 10 days.

AFP reported that a Syrian Airlines flight took off from Damascus Airport this morning (18th) local time, carrying 43 passengers, and headed to Aleppo in the northwest.

Tas news agency also said Damascus Airport has resumed commercial flights in the country, starting with flights to Aleppo.

This comes 10 days after rebels took control of Damascus on the 8th and President Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia.

In the airport terminal, the symbol of the rebels, the Syrian Independence Flag, was hung instead of the al-Assad regime's "Bart Party Siriagi."
