The Consumer Dispute Mediation Committee of the Korea Consumer Agency decided that Timon, Wemakeff, travel agencies, and PG companies should jointly refund the payment for travel, lodging, and aviation consumer damage.
Specifically, Timon and Wemakeff have limited their liability to refund 100% of their payments, 106 travel agencies up to 90% and 14 PG companies up to 30%.
In the case of Timon and Wemakeff, it is difficult to immediately refund the payment because they are undergoing the court's rehabilitation process, the mediation committee explained, and the travel agency and PG have jointly taken responsibility for consumer protection.
The sellers were then responsible for the refund of the withdrawal of the subscription as a party to the product contract, and PG decided that it was appropriate to share some of the losses as a market participant.
Of the 9,000 consumers who applied for collective dispute mediation in August, 8,54 are eligible for refunds, and the amount they should receive is 13.5 billion won.
The parties shall notify the Commission of their acceptance within 15 days from the date they are notified of the mediation decision, and if the consumer and the business agree to the mediation decision, the mediation will be established.
However, since dispute mediation is not legally compulsory, victims must go through civil proceedings if mediation breaks down.
The Consumer Agency is considering assistance in class civil litigation for affected consumers if the operator does not accept the mediation decision.
