Truth and Reconciliation Commission decides to find out the truth of the 1980 Sabuk Uprising.

A decision to find out the truth was made in connection with the "Sabuk Uprising," a representative human rights violation case in Gangwon-do in 1980.

The Truth and Reconciliation Committee said today (19th) that it has decided to find out the truth after judging the incident of the North Korean uprising as a serious violation of human rights.

He also advised the state to take appropriate measures, such as apologizing to victims and their families and supporting commemorative projects.

The Sabuk Uprising occurred in April 1980 in Sabuk-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do, and it occurred when the Dongwon Coal Miner, the largest private coal mine in Korea, and 6,000 family members demanded the nullification of the illegal election and wage increase.

At that time, a representative agreement between labor, management, and government was reached, but the joint investigation team of the martial law command of the new military came in and illegally detained more than 200 residents for a long time without a warrant, followed by torture, abuse, and sexual abuse of women.
