The path for reconsideration has opened for Choi Mal-ja, 78, who was sentenced to prison for seriously injuring a man 60 years ago for biting the tongue of a man who tried to rape him.

On the 18th, the Supreme Court reversed the original decision that dismissed Choi's request for retrial and returned the case to the Busan High Court.

The Supreme Court judged that the court should consider the reasons for the retrial, which Choi claimed, including illegal arrest and imprisonment, were credible during the investigation.

Earlier, Choi was sentenced to two years of probation in October for biting the tongue of a 21-year-old man who was trying to rape him in May 1964, when he was 18 years old.

Choi requested a retrial in May 2020, 56 years after the incident, saying that the prosecutor illegally detained and forced him to confess during the past investigation.
