According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government's living population data, as of 7 p.m. on December 24, last year, the living population in Gwanghwamun and Jongno was tallied at 86,600, ranking first.
Next was Myeong-dong, Seoul, which is considered a Christmas attraction, with 83,400 people, followed by Yeouido, which has large shopping malls such as The Hyundai Seoul and IFC Mall, with 76,000 people.
Jamsil 3-dong and Jamsil Station in Songpa-gu, where Lotte World and Seokchon Lake are located, were also counted as places where large crowds gathered.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has set up a general situation room at the venue in preparation for the Christmas crowd accident and is monitoring the dense situation through CCTV.
