On the 22nd local time, a bridge linking northern and northeastern Brazil collapsed, killing more than 10 people.

In addition, a truck carrying sulfuric acid fell into the river and leaked toxic substances.

Brazil's National Transportation and Infrastructure Ministry said the middle part of the 533-meter-long, 50-meter-high bridge linking Estreito, Maranyang, to Aguiaropolis, Tokanchings had collapsed.

Local fire officials say two trucks, a car and a motorcycle fell into the river, and at least 11 people are believed to have been killed.

Firefighters have been suspended from rescue operations since sulfuric acid was confirmed to have leaked.

Opened in 1960, the bridge is constructed of reinforced concrete and is part of a highway section connecting Brasilia to northern Bellem, where the United Nations Climate Change Conference is scheduled to be held next year.
