Number of births rises by biggest margin in 12 years
The number of births rose in October to its highest rate in 14 years, continuing its four-month streak.
The number of marriages has also increased for seven consecutive months.

The National Statistical Office said the number of births stood at 21,398 in October, up 13.4% from a year earlier.
This is the biggest increase in 14 years since October 2010 when it was 15.6%.
The number of births increased by 2,520, the largest increase in 12 years since 2012.
The number of births has been on the rise for four consecutive months since exceeding 20,000 in July, and the increase is also growing.
Statistics Korea analyzed that the number of marriages has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic and the government's policies such as housing support have also affected it.

It can be seen that not only the first child but also the second child have a large impact on the increase in births.
The number of births in October by city and province also increased in all cities and provinces.
It is the first time that the number of births has increased nationwide since March 2015.
By October, there were 199,999 births, exceeding the number of births in the same period last year.
If this trend is maintained, the annual number of births this year is expected to rebound to positive for the first time in nine years.
However, in 2022, the year before last, the number of births has not reached more than 210,000.
The number of marriages in October rose by 3,568 to 19,551, a 22.3% increase.
The number of marriages has increased for seven consecutive months since April.
There were 29,819 deaths in October, down 974 from a year earlier.
The population fell naturally by 8,421 in October as deaths topped the number of births.
