This year, the number of homeless people in the U.S. rose to an all-time high, up 18% from a year ago.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there were 770,000 homeless people as of January this year, with 23 out of 10,000 Americans living in shelters, temporary shelters, tents or cars.

It also attributed the surge in housing prices over the years, reduced government support introduced during the COVID-19 era, stagnant wage increases for middle and low-income families, insufficient homelessness support systems and a surge in migrants seeking asylum in the United States.

Democrats support expanding the social safety net, while Republicans are calling for homeless people to receive mental illness and drug treatment before government aid.

Trump said homeless dwellings should be demolished and placed in collective camps, arguing that massive deportation of illegal immigrants would lead to more affordable homes available to other Americans.
