The U.S. State Department responded to YTN's inquiry asking for its position on the impeachment of the acting president, saying it has seen South Korea peacefully follow the procedures outlined in the constitution.
The State Department stressed that it strongly supports the Korean people in the process, saying that the most important thing is that South Korea has shown democratic resilience.
At the same time, he made it clear that he strongly supports an ironclad alliance that ties the two countries.
"The South Korea-U.S. alliance has made great progress in recent years," the State Department said, adding, "We look forward to further progress in cooperation with South Korea."
When asked about the impeachment of the acting president, the U.S. Department of Defense replied, "We reiterate our support for South Korea, the Korean people, democratic procedures and the rule of law."
