The Muan Airport plane disaster is the first civil aircraft death in 11 years since the Asiana Airlines crash in 2013.
In particular, the accident was recorded as the first major disaster for a domestic low-cost airline.

The most recent national aircraft accident was the Asiana Airlines accident in July 2013.
A Boeing 777 plane leaving Incheon International Airport and landing at San Francisco International Airport crashed into the levee in front of the runway, killing three Chinese and injuring more than 180 others, including Koreans.
Before building Muan Airport, an Asiana Airlines plane crashed during Mokpo Airport.
In July 1993, the aircraft attempting to land crashed into a hill in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, killing more than 60 passengers and crew members and saving more than 40.
In 1997, a Korean Air Boeing 747 crashed into a hill while landing at Guam Airport, killing more than 220 people.
Although it is not a national airline, in April 2002, a Chinese International Airlines flight crashed while landing at Gimhae Airport, killing 129 people, including Korean passengers.
Most of the accidents occurred due to the pilot's negligence in forcing the landing in bad weather, but since then, aviation safety regulations have been strengthened and major accidents have been greatly reduced.
However, after the launch of low-cost airlines, large and small safety accidents followed.
In August 2007, a Jeju Air passenger plane landed and fell into the runway drain due to strong winds at Gimhae Airport, causing more than 10 injuries.
In 2015, Jeju Air from Gimpo to Jeju plunged beyond the pressure control device, terrorizing more than 150 passengers,
A Jin Air flight
was found to have not been completely closed and returned.
The Muan Airport airliner disaster was recorded as the first large-scale accident at a low-cost airline and the biggest casualty since the 2000s.
