Artificial Intelligence (AI) chip leader Nvidia has completed the acquisition of Israeli AI startup RunAI.

It has been more than eight months since the announcement of the acquisition of Run AI in April, and the acquisition deal is reported to the market to be worth $700 million (about 1 trillion won).

Nvidia has been under investigation by authorities to see if its acquisition of RunAI constitutes an antitrust act, and the European Commission approved the deal on the 22nd.

However, the U.S. Department of Justice has reportedly launched an anti-trust investigation out of concern that the deal could potentially eliminate upstart competitors in AI.

RunAI is a company that develops software that optimizes the resource utilization of graphics processing units (GPUs) that execute AI tasks to bring out better performance from existing hardware.

Founded in 2018, the startup has been working closely with Nvidia since its inception, and its software is designed to perform optimally on Nvidia GPUs.

Nvidia, which holds more than 80% of the AI chip market, expects the acquisition to strengthen its dominance in AI.

Nvidia shares, which acquired RunAI, were trading at $137.49 on the New York Stock Exchange, up 0.35% from the previous trading day, amid a decline in large technology stocks such as Apple and Tesla.
