"Because of Google's size and success, it's being monitored worldwide," Pichai said at the "2025 Strategic Meeting," adding that "it's part of the trend of the times where technology has a big impact on society, so we need to focus without being shaken."
Google has seen sales growth in search advertising and cloud this year, but competition in its core markets has intensified and regulations are stronger than ever.
In particular, in August, it lost an anti-trust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice in the search market, facing a separate sale of Web browser Chrome.
Separately, it is awaiting a ruling on whether it violates the antitrust law, such as preventing competition by acquiring related companies and others in the online advertising market.
The British competition authority also tentatively determined that Google's advertising technology practices had a negative impact on competition in the UK.
Google's search business still maintains a dominant market share, but new competitors are also emerging.
OpenAI is leading the AI craze through ChatGPT, which was introduced in late 2022, and has recently threatened Google by launching a search engine, while startup PurpleLexity has also launched an AI-based search service.
CEO Pichai said, "In the new year, we will secure more than 500 million Gemini app users and significantly improve performance," adding, "We will introduce several AI functions in the first half of the year."
