The trial of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who is accused of leading the emergency martial law incident, will begin on the 16th of next month.

The Seoul Central District Court will hold the first trial preparation date for former Minister Kim at 10 a.m. on the 16th of next month.

The trial preparation date is a process of confirming the defendant's position before a formal trial and establishing an evidence investigation plan, but there is no obligation for the defendant to attend.

On the 27th, the Special Investigation Headquarters of the Prosecution Service handed over former Minister Kim to trial in custody for the first time among suspects related to the emergency martial law incident.

Former Minister Kim is accused of blocking the National Assembly with President Yoon Suk Yeol and ordering the deployment of armed martial law forces to prevent the decision to lift martial law.

He is also accused of ordering Yeo In-hyeong, commander of the Defense Security Command, to arrest more than 10 key figures, including National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik, and sending martial law troops to take control of the Central Election Commission.
