The ruling and opposition parties have agreed to form a National Assembly-level countermeasure committee in connection with the Jeju Air plane disaster at Muan International Airport.

Kwon Young-se, chairman of the People's Power Emergency Response Committee, and Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, agreed on this after a meeting presided over by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik, a senior spokesman for both parties said.

Cho Seung-rae, a spokesman for the Democratic Party, explained that three people, including National Assembly Secretary-General Kim Min-ki, Kwon Young-jin, head of the People's Power TF, and Joo Chul-hyun, head of the Democratic Party's aviation disaster countermeasure committee, will co-chair the countermeasure committee.

Shin Dong-wook, a spokesman for People's Power, said, "Since the situation on the ground is very confusing, the ruling and opposition parties have decided to make every effort to deal with the accident and support the victims' families."

The two parties also agreed to launch a "state consultative body" in which the National Assembly and the government work together to deal with pending issues of people's livelihoods to stabilize state affairs as soon as possible.

The National Assembly Speaker, ruling and opposition party leaders, and acting president will participate in the parliamentary consultative body to discuss issues related to the economy of people's livelihoods and diplomacy and security as major agendas.
