20-year-old arrested for pushing passengers onto tracks in New York City subway

A man in his 20s has been arrested after pushing a person to the tracks where a train enters from a subway station platform in central New York.

Police in New York say they have arrested and are investigating a 23-year-old man, Camel Hawkins, on attempted murder charges.

Hawkins is accused of suddenly pushing a man waiting for a train on the platform of Manhattan's 18th Street station on the New York subway at around 1:30 p.m. on the 31st of last month, dropping him on the track and running away.

Footage taken at the time of the crime showed Hawkins pushing the victim hard and dropping him on the track while the victim, who was standing on the platform, bowed his head and looked into his phone.

The victim, who is known to be a 45-year-old man, was rescued by a fire brigade that was dispatched just before the train entered the platform and taken to a hospital for treatment.
