In Vietnam, dubbed the "country of motorcycles," traffic violations have increased by up to several dozen times since the new year, and crackdowns have been greatly strengthened.

According to local media Tuoi Tse, fines for signal violations or reverse road driving have increased from 4 million to 6 million dong (about 230,000 to 350,000 won) to 18 million to 20 million dong (about 1.04 million to 1.16 million won).

The fines for reckless driving and speeding also increased to up to 50 million dong (about 2.9 million won), more than four times the previous (up to 12 million dong).

In addition, if you use a mobile phone or electronic device while driving, you will have to pay a fine of 4 million to 6 million dong (about 230,000 won to 350,000 won), which is about twice the current fine.

Even for motorcycles, which are representative means of transportation, the traffic signal violation penalty soared to up to 6 million dong (about 350,000 won), up to 7.5 times higher than the existing 800,000 to 1 million dong.

On top of that, as public security authorities strengthened their traffic crackdowns in the new year, there have been cases in which drivers have been surprised by the rising fines.

In addition, it was also noticeable that drivers were conscious of the crackdown and strictly observed signals at intersections and crosswalks unlike before, according to the current media.
