Italian Prime Minister Jorja Meloni made an unannounced visit to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and met with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

Meloni met with Trump on the afternoon of the 4th local time.

"I'm really excited, I'm with the Italian prime minister, who is a fantastic woman," Meloni said.

The conversation at the meeting was not made public, but Italian media reported that Meloni had prepared to discuss the war in Ukraine, trade issues, the Middle East and Iran's detention of an Italian journalist.

As a hard-right party leader, Mr. Meloni is said to be a good match for Mr. Trump and is also close to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a key Trump ally.

Italian media said the meeting included Senator Marco Rubio, the nominee for secretary of state, Scott Bessent, the nominee for treasury secretary, and Representative Mike Waltz, who was named national security adviser to the White House.

This is the second meeting between Prime Minister Meloni and President-elect Trump after a dinner to commemorate the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on the 7th of last month.

On the 12th, Meloni will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden, who will visit Italy ahead of his retirement.
