A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck inland in northern China.

There was no major damage, but there was an escape procession of terrified residents.

What's the reason? Beijing correspondent Kang Jeong-gyu reports.

[Reporter]
With the sudden vibration, the items on the shelves are poured out, and the store customers as well as the owners are running around.

The mother who rushed out of the house with her child in her arms, the tiles that fell on the stairs of the apartment are broken up in a mess.

Students who were taking classes hide under desks all at once and then evacuate the classroom when the vibration stops.

[Middle school teacher (last 2 days): Evacuate quickly! There was an earthquake.

On the 2nd, a series of earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.8 and 4.6 occurred in Yinchuan, China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Six people were only lightly injured, but there was so much chaos that the entire city of 2.9 million people was paralyzed.

The escape procession continued as rumors spread that it was a "pioneer of a major earthquake" in more than 50 aftershocks.

The train station was crowded, and long lines were spread out at gas stations and major roads.

There were no empty seats in the outdoor parking lot as residents flocked to try to "car park" without returning home.

[Yinchuan residents (last 3 days): I've never seen so many cars and people in Yinchuan. Oh, my God!]
Authorities in the
earthquake began to extinguish the rumors, calling them unfounded, but the fear did not subside easily.

[Jeng Xianwei / Ningxia Earthquake Captain: Not more than 300 years after the magnitude 8 earthquake, enough energy has been accumulated in the area to cause a major earthquake.]

Local police arrested 37 people, arrested two, and took the rest of them on the "Chinese version of Kakao Talk" WeChat, claiming that they instigated social confusion by spreading false information.
