"The Washington Post incorrectly reported that my tariff policy would be curtailed, citing so-called anonymous sources that don't even exist," Trump said in a post on his social media.
Trump said the report was wrong and the Washington Post knew it was wrong, adding it was another example of fake news.
During the presidential election, Trump pledged to impose universal tariffs of more than 10% on all imports.
The Washington Post quoted sources as saying Trump is considering imposing universal tariffs only on items related to certain areas considered key to U.S. national and economic security.
"We're talking through proxies," Trump said of Chinese President Xi Jinping during an appearance on the conservative radio Hugh Hewitt show, Reuters reported. "We expect to get along very well."
