The U.S. government temporarily eased some of its sanctions on Syria amid a transitional government in the country. The U.S. Treasury Department
said it approved certain deals with the Syrian government for six months, including energy sales, on the 6th local time. The U.S. Treasury Department
said the move was aimed at ensuring that activities such as public service provision or humanitarian aid were not hindered by U.S. sanctions, which would exempt humanitarian aid groups from the individual approval process.

The Associated Press and others evaluated the US government's move as a sign of limited support for the Syrian transitional government.

Last month, an attack in Syria by insurgents led by the Islamic Sunni militant group HTS led to the fall of the Assad regime and the establishment of a transitional government.
