A series of violent crimes on the New York City subway are stumbling in the way of getting telecommuters to work in the office as they grow civil unrest, Bloomberg reports.

According to a study by "Vital City," a research group at Columbia University's law school, 573 subway felonies were reported last year, the highest number since 1997, and 10 subway homicides, double the number from the previous year.

"Despite numerous countermeasures, last year was the most dangerous year in decades for passengers on board," Bloomberg said.

New York Governor Kathy Hockel and New York Mayor Eric Adams increased police deployment in history last year to secure public transportation safety, but they did not have much effect.

Managers want employees to return to work instead of working from home, but many employees are reluctant to return to the office because they fear subway crime, Bloomberg said.
