Rep. Chung Dong-young of the Democratic Party of Korea said that Philip Goldberg, the U.S. ambassador to South Korea, was astonished by Kim Tae-hyo's claim that "the martial law was inevitable."

Chung claimed that he met Ambassador Goldberg at a meeting of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on Overcoming Insurrection and National Stability, and yesterday (6th) when U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken visited National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik.

Ambassador Goldberg tried to call officials from the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the NSC on the day of the martial law's declaration, but no call was made, and he explained that he was the only one to talk to Deputy Kim on the morning of the 4th of last month after the martial law was lifted, Chung said.

At the time, Deputy Chief Kim repeated the argument that Korea's judicial and administrative systems were broken due to the legislative dictatorship and martial law was inevitable to eradicate anti-nationalist forces, and Ambassador Goldberg was surprised.
